30 Years of Project Christmas

(11/14/13) December 14, 2013 will represent the 30th year of Project Christmas helping various Jackson County households for whom the Christmas season would otherwise be rather bleak.

In 2012, Project Christmas volunteers made deliveries to 485 Jackson County households.  This year, the Project Christmas board of directors anticipates that our drivers and volunteers will be visiting approximately 500 Jackson County households.            As in the past, telephone calls concerning referrals, address and household member changes should only be made to 284-4113 (American Family Insurance) before December 2, 2013.  No one else, including our directors, is authorized to accept requests.

We definitely need monetary donations and these donations may be sent to Project Christmas, c/o Co-op Credit Union, P.O. Box 157, Black River Falls, WI  54615.  In addition, cash donation boxes are available at various business places throughout the county.  Monetary donations are income tax deductible.

In addition to cash donations, we also are in need of donations of non-perishable foods, new toys and new games.  All toys and games should have a retail value of approximately $10 to $12 each.  Please do not wrap gifts, as they will need to be sorted and categorized by our volunteers. We cannot accept used toys, used games, used stuffed animals, or used clothing.  We also do not accept battery powered games or battery powered toys.

From now through December 8, red collection barrels will be available throughout the county at financial institutions, grocery stores, and schools. Our emphasis this year is canned fruits and vegetables, canned soups, packaged cookies, boxes of Jello, macaroni and cheese, and peanut butter (preferably in plastic jars).

The Project Christmas headquarters will be at the National Guard Armory beginning on  December 9.  The activity dates are:

a.  Tuesday, December 10 – 6 P.M.– Gift Wrapping (volunteers are encouraged to bring wrapping paper, scissors, and cellophane tape).

b.   Thursday, December 12 - 6 P.M. – Packing of grocery boxes.

c.   Saturday,  December 14 – Distribution  (volunteer drivers and helpers will be contacted as to times).

As a convenience to interested shoppers, from November 13 until December 8, Wal-Mart SuperCenter, Black River Falls will have a display of gifts in the $10 to $12 range that have been pre-selected.   After making a Project Christmas purchase at WalMart, please leave the gift with the cashier and it will be put away for Project Christmas..

We want to thank anyone who has already made a donation to Project Christmas and/or offered to assist with Project Christmas – 2013.   Your generosity is what has made Project Christmas a reality for 30 Christmas seasons!
