BRMH and Local EMS Partner in Fall Prevention Measures

(5/5/14)  Black River Memorial Hospital and local EMS are partnering to help prevent falls in our community!

When an individual falls in the community and is assisted by EMS or the Emergency Department, an Occupational Therapist from Black River Memorial Hospital's Rehabilitation Department will be notified. The Occupational Therapist, who has specialized training in fall prevention, will follow-up with the individual by phone.

During the follow-up phone call the therapist will provide education about services in our community geared toward preventing falls. Together, they will work with the individual and their physician to determine how to best coordinate further services that may be needed to prevent a future fall.

This program is very new to the community and is already proving to be successful! If you are interested or have a loved one prone to falls, call Heather Comstock, OTR at 715-284-1330 to learn more about the partnership and services available for fall prevention in the Black River Falls Community.
