(6/17/14) More information has been released about a Sunday morning house fire.
Black River Falls Fire Chief Steve Schreiber, on Monday, provided more details about the Sunday morning fatal house fire on 700 block of Fillmore Street in the city, including the name of the person who died at the scene.
"It was 84 year-old Margie Johnson...who is an owner and resident of that address."
Results an autopsy conducted in Madison Monday are not yet known. The chief did speak to a possible cause of the blaze.
"From evidence viewed at the scene and the home. And from information we've been able to gather from other home owners in the area. It was initially started by lightning storm or lightning strike."
Schreiber had an important fire safety reminder for us all.
"Make sure you have working smoke detectors. If they go off...get out...stay out. Call 911. Never ever, ever, ever go back in to anything, to any burning building or anything, to retrieve pets, personal items, or try to rescue someone else. It could easily turn in to be more than one person lost in a tragedy like this. So get out, stay out like we teach the young folks and everyone else in schools during fire prevention week. And I'm not saying that's what happened in this situation."
Meanwhile, funeral services for Margie Johnson are planned for this Saturday at 11:00 from the Little Norway Lutheran Church.
