Steven W. Schneider, 69, of Coon Valley, formerly of La Crosse and Black
River Falls, died Saturday, May 12,2012, at St. Joeseph's Rehabilitation
He was born March 22, 1943, in Black River Falls to Hugo and Helen
(Samdahl) Schneider. Steve was raised in Black River Falls and was
affectionately known by friends as "Cubby". His motto was "always looking
for a bargain, but free is even better." In his early years, Steve was a
part of the Schneider boys' legacy of delivering the La Crosse Tribune to
families in the Grove. The route was started by his older brother Dick in
1949 and delivery continued by each brother, ending with Brian in 1964.
Steve was also a "pump jockey" at Tubby Krueger's Citco Service Station
during high school. After graduation from Black River Falls High School
in1961, Steve attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute to learn the
trade of tool and die making. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard,
Black River Falls for six years and achieved the highest recognition in
marksmanship in his unit. Steve will long be
remembered by his family and friends for his knowledge and excellence of
the automotive industry,
woodworking, and craftsmanship. Steve married Betty (Zeman) Peterson on
December 20, 1974.
Together they owned and operated Schneider-Chevrolet Oldsmobile Dealership
until 1987. Betty preceded him in death on March 22, 1990. On December 24,
1990, Steve married Linda Hogden in Black River Falls.
Survivors include David (Lou), Brooke, Brian (Joan), Linda Schneider and
her children, Halley, Eric, Aron; Betty's children, Roger, Beth, Paul;
nieces, Lynne, Leigh, Amy,
Jessica and Lisa; nephews, Brent, Chad, and John; many step-grandchildren;
great-nephews; other relatives; and friends.
In addition to his first wife, Betty, Steve was preceded in death by his
parents and his brother, Dick.
A celebration of Steve's life will be Thursday, May 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m.
at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 115 North 5th Street, Black River Falls,
Wis. Rev. Joel Gueningsman will
officiate. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until
the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred and will be
shared with service organizations in Jackson County. Jandt-Fredrickson
Funeral Homes and Crematory, (Woodruff Chapel), La Crosse, is in charge of
