(9/18/12) Roy L. Pokorny, age 86, of Merrillan, WI. died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 in his home in the Town of Alma, Jackson County.
Roy was born on April 28, 1926 in Black River Falls to Louis and Tillie (Spicka) Pokorny. He was raised in rural Black River Falls, and he married Dolores Squires in Alma Center on Sept. 7, 1950.
He operated his own dairy farm, and also did custom farm work. He cut pulp, worked as a groundskeeper for the Lincoln High School in Alma Center, and worked at the former Krueger's Nursery in Hixton.
Surviving are his wife Dolores, 6-sons, Roy (Sally Jo) Pokorny, Merrillan, WI., Michael (Lisa Greene) Pokorny, Summerville, S.C., Daniel (Kathy) Pokorny, Merrillan, WI., Darren (Erin) Pokorny, Sparta, WI., Doyle (Kim) Pokorny, Waupon, WI., Derrick (Andrea) Pokorny, Waunakee, WI., 5-daughters, Maureen (Daniel) Donaldson, Payson, Az., Denise (Robert) Alexander, Georgetown, TX., Dawn (Steve) Pokorny Fisher, Eau Claire, WI., Renee (Mark) Brommer, Alma Center, and Rhonda (Jerry) Shuck, Phoenix, Az., one sister, Norma Kasper, Chicago, Il., a niece, Cheryl Nemec, Middleton, WI., 2-sister-in-laws, Lavon (Dennis) Rader, Green Bay, WI., and Mary (Roy Lippert) Armbruster, Chili, WI., 22-grandchildren, and 9-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Tillie Pokorny, one brother, Milton, one sister, Helen, his father and mother-in-law, Millard and Leona Squires, one daughter-in law, Teena Pokorny, one son-in-law, Jeffrey Chapman, one grandson, Travis Pokorny, and one niece, Barb Galster.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 from the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Alma Center, WI. Rev. Father Jude Dioka will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alma Center. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 2 until 5 P.M. and on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of services.
