Garth E. Wensel

(2-14-13) Garth E. Wensel, age 90, of Black River Falls, WI. died Thursday, February 14, 2013 in the Black River Memorial Hospital.

    Garth was born on January 8, 1923 in the Town of Irving, Jackson County to William and Nellie (Drew) Wensel. He was raised in the Trout Run Area of the Town of Irving, and he graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1941. On June 8, 1953, he married Doris Odeen in the United Methodist Church in Black River Falls.  The couple resided their entire married lives in the Trout Run Area. Garth always enjoyed music.  When he was younger, he played the piano, saxophone, and clarinet.  He also played in a dance band. He got his pilot's license and played golf. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and reading.  But his passion was farming.  Being on the farm was his life.  Three weeks before his death, he was still driving tractor. He was a member of the Trout Run United Methodist Church, and for many years, he was the Treasurer of the Trout Run Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Doris, two sons, Paul (Karalee) Wensel and Jeff (Judith) Wensel, both of Black River Falls, 7-grandchildren, Rebecca (Scott) DeGroot, Joseph Wensel, Matthew Wensel, Jennifer (Matthew) Dercks, Beth Wensel, Zachary Wensel, and Bradley Wensel, and 5-great grandchildren, Ethan, Jeremy, Emma, Alexandra, and Kaydence. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Joyce Lofthus, and one brother, Vilas Wensel. Memorial funeral services for Garth E. Wensel will be at 11 A.M. Friday, February 22, 2013 from the Black River Falls United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted by Pastor John Paul and burial will be in the Trout Run Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may call at the Buswell Funeral Home (715-284-2231) 106 So. 2nd St. Black River Falls on Thursday from 5 until 7 P.M. and at the church on Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the Trout Run United Methodist Church, the Trout Run Cemetery, or the Black River Memorial Hospice.
