(2/21/13) Robert Kunes, 81, of Melrose passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
Robert was born Sept. 16, 1931, to Forest and Amy (Heinick) Kunes.
Robert graduated from Melrose High School in 1950, and married Marlene (Emerson) Kunes in 1957.
Robert was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church of Melrose. He also served on the church board, along with the town board, the Jackson County Farm Service Agency board and was a member of the Melrose Rod-N-Gun.
Foremost, he was a steward of the land. He spent his entire life farming in the West Indies area of Melrose. Years later he loved traveling and went on many camping expeditions with his wife, Marlene. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their many sporting events and activities.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene (Emerson) Kunes; son, Michael, daughter, Elizabeth McRae (John) and son, Timothy (Shelly). Grandchildren include Alexander McRae and wife, Nicole, Madeline McRae, Nicholas Kunes, Miranda Kunes, Melinda Kunes, and Joshua Kunes. He is also survived by sister, Doris (Kunes) Craig; and sisters-in-law, Joanna, Lorraine and Eloda Kunes.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Warren, Claire, Richard; sisters, Elaine (Kunes) Olson and Margaret (Kunes) Parlow.
He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, at St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Melrose. Burial will follow at the Melrose Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Zwickey Funeral Home in Melrose, or one hour prior to services at the church.
