Ella B. Tomter

(6-18-13) Ella B. Tomter, age 101, of Black River Falls, WI. died Monday, June 17, 2013 in the Pine View Care Center.   Ella was born on Sept. 18, 1911 in the Town of Nothfield, Jackson County to Edward J. and Berthilda (Rudd) Larvick.  She was raised in the York Area.

On July 27, 1935, she married Lester Tomter in Pigeon Falls, WI.  The couple farmed in the York area and then moved to Black River Falls in the early 1940's. Ella did housekeeping and other various jobs and also worked at the former Freeman Hotel in Black River Falls.  She and her husband purchased the interest of Adolph Larvick in T & L Dry Cleaners and operated the business in downtown Black River Falls for many years.  They also purchased the Waterman Building, located on 1st St., and established the first Speed Wash Laundromat in Black River Falls.  Ella was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Sewing Club.  She was a former member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.  She loved to quilt. Surviving are one son,  Tom (Kathy) Tomter, Black River Falls, 2- daughters, Janet (Robert) Ibinger, Mt. Horeb, WI. and Charlotte Peterson, Black River Falls, 21-grandchildren, 49-great grandchildren, and 28-great, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, on June 8, 2001, her parents, one daughter, Shelvey LaMay Manifesto, one son-in-law, Eugene Peterson, one granddaughter, Nancy Ibinger, 2-brothers, Carl and Adolph, and 4-sisters, Judith, Margaret, Selma, and Florence. Funeral services for Ella B. Tomter will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 22, 2013 from the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Services will be conducted by Pastor Eric Bakken and burial will be in the Pigeon Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pigeon Falls. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 A.M. until the time of services. Memorials may be given to the Jackson County Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers. Torgerson's Funeral Home (715-284-4321) of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
