Lillian Marie LaValley

(9-16-13) Lillian Marie LaValley, age 86, of Black River Falls, WI. died Sunday afternoon, September 15, 2013, at Black River Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. 

    Born in Chicago, Il, on May 24, 1927, Lillian was the eldest of two children born to Ingemar "Helmer" and Marie (Mulvihill) Molde.

    Following her graduation from Austin High School in Chicago in 1945, Lillian was employed at Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in Chicago.  She and her  husband, Wendell LaValley, were married in Chicago on September 26, 1947.

   Lillian and Wendell, along with Lillian's parents, and her sister, Joan (Kersting) moved to Black River Falls in May of 1948.  Lillian and Wendell first lived in a small log cabin in Trout Run, next they moved to an apartment in downtown Black River Falls, later to a house in the Grove area, and then they moved to their residence on Buena Vista Drive where they have resided since 1955.

    In 1950, Lillian began working at the Jackson County Courthouse where she was employed as a Court Reporter, Register, and Probate for the Honorable Hans Hanson.  She left employment there in June of 1953 to raise her family.  Lillian returned to work at the Courthouse in May of 1973, this time as Traffic Clerk in the Clerk of Courts Office.  She remained there until she retired in 1990.

   Throughout her life, Lillian enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting.  There are many who enjoyed her company over the years at the Lake Arbutus Campground.  She and Wendell also enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout the United States and in Canada., including various National Parks and State Campgrounds.  One of their favorite destinations was Branson, Mo. where they enjoyed listening to a wide range of Country Western Music performances.  Throughout her life, Lillian enjoyed cooking and baking, going to auctions, flower gardening, going to rummage sales, crocheting, arts, and crafts, and spending time with family and friends.  She especially enjoyed all of the time she spent with her grandson, Soren, who she adored.

   Lillian is survived by her daughter, Wendy LaValley, Brattleboro, VT, her two sons, Todd LaValley and Kevin (Kristin Berg) LaValley, both of Black River Falls, her grandson, Soren LaValley, Black River Falls, nephew, Kim (Emilie) Kersting, Whitehall, WI., nieces, Jamie (Michael) VanKirk and Kelley (Burt) Dawley, both of Black River Falls, nephew, Shane, Marinette, first cousin, Karen Sturdevant, Sparta, WI., first cousin, once removed, Dennis Pusateri, Black River Falls, WI.

   She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Shawn, her parents, Helmer and Marie Molde, sister, Joan Kersting, and husband, Wendell.

   Funeral services for Lillian LaValley will be at 11 A.M. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 from the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Services will be conducted by Pastor Eric Bakken and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may call at Torgerson's Funeral Home (715-284-4321) 408 N. Water St. on Thursday from 5 until 7 P.M. and on Friday at the church from 10 A.M. until the time of services.

   Memorials may be given to Black River Memorial Hospice.
