(10-22-13) Pliny C. Peterson, age 83, of Melrose, WI. died Monday, October 21, 2013 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tomah, WI.
Pliny was born in the Town of Springfield, Jackson County on January 4, 1930 to Theodore P. and Clara Mae (Johnson) Peterson. He was raised in the Disco Area of Irving Township.
He served in the Navy on board the USS Passumpsic, a re-fueling ship, off the Korean Coast from July 29, 1949 to April 22, 1953.
He worked at the former Disco Creamery and Madison Silo Company before becoming a farmer.
On March 14, 1959, he married Ardella Hjornevik at the Taylor Parsonage.
In addition to being a dedicated farmer, he enjoyed raising a variety of different animals on his farm.
Pliny was a life- long member of the Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Melrose American Legion Post # 439.
He loved to read western novels and watch old movies. He liked to cut wood and ties, play cards, and play checkers with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Ardella, 4-sons, Mark (Andrea) Peterson, Naples, FL, Paul (Rebecca) Peterson, Melrose, Tim (Connie) Peterson, Black River Falls, and David (Denise) Peterson, Barron, WI, 2-daughters, Robyn Aspenson, Viroqua, and Rebecca (John) Gefeke, New Richmond, WI, 17-grandchildren, 2-great grandchildren, 3-sisters, Mae (Clayton) Olson, Melrose, Belva Osegard, Menomonie, and Lois Olson, Black River Falls, 2-sister-in-laws, Barbara Peterson, Hixton, and Beverly Peterson, Merrillan, 3-brother-in-laws, Jerry, Ken, and Merle Hjornevik, all of Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, and 4-brothers, Donald, Mahlum, Harry, and Milton, a sister, Pearl Huber, a sister-in-law, Ruth, and brother-in-laws, Harlan Huber, Donnie Osegard, Danny and Helge Hjornevik.
Funeral services for Pliny C. Peterson will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 26, from the Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, located at the Intersection of County Highways C & N, rural Taylor, WI. Services will be conducted by Pastor Benjamin Ahles-Iverson and burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 4 until 7 P.M. and on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of services.
