Laverne E. "Bud" Wyss

 (12/16/13)  Laverne E. "Bud" Wyss, age 91, of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013, at the Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls.

Laverne was born on October 8, 1922, in the Town of Irving, Jackson County to John and Ida "Lillian" (Hoem) Wyss. He attended rural school at Pine Grove School and also attended Black River Falls High School, and then began working full-time at the Wyss family farm.

Bud married Valerie Wussow on December 20, 1958 in Black River Falls, and the couple resided in the rural Black River Falls area.

Bud worked on the Wyss farm many years before marrying and leaving the farm to work for Hoffman Construction as a grade laborer, the Beloit Gas Pipeline, and the City of Black River Falls and during his retirement years, as a janitor for the Black River Memorial Hospital and Flying J Travel Plaza. He passed his love of farming on to his son Fred, who still works a farm with friends on Soup Bone Road. Bud enjoyed helping to raise his grandchildren, he had a great love of reading western novels, newspapers, and any bit of new scandal and/or pertinent information in the "rag magazines", and he loved television infomercials and purchased the latest and greatest inventions.

Bud was an avid health nut, experimenting with many different vitamins and elixirs to help find the "fountain of youth". He was a great cat lover, and had many unusual names for them. Bu most of importantly of all, he made certain his kids had everything they could possibly want or need, and he went without to make sure they were well taken care of.

Survivors include two sons, Fred (Verna) Wyss of Black River Falls, Peter (Betty) Wyss of Alma Center, a daughter, Tracy (Steve) Hoeschele of Black River Falls; two sisters, Betty Thomas and Ruth Huber of Black River Falls and a brother John (Wilma) Wyss of Mesa, Arizona. He is further survived by two brother-in-laws, Chuck Wussow and Forster (Marilyn) Wussow of Black River Falls and a sister-in-law, Colleen Cooper of Black River Falls; six grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan, Miranda and Ryder Wyss; MacKenzie and Cody Hoeschele and several nieces and nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Val, October 30, 2001, his parents, John and Lillian, brothers-in-law, Mike Thomas, Roger Huber, and Jack Cooper; sister-in-law, Virginia Wussow, nephew, Greg Wyss, and infant twin sisters.

A memorial services for Laverne "Bud" Wyss will be at 11:00, Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Torgerson Funeral Home (715) 284-4321, 408 N. Water Street,

Black River Falls. Pastor Eric Bakken will be officiating with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be given to the Pine View Care Center's Activity Fund or the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Black River Falls.

Torgerson Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
