Lyle E. Rommel

(12/27/13) Lyle E. Rommel, 90, of Melrose passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013 at his home.

He was born October 18, 1923 in Jackson County, WI to George and Josie (Pfaff) Rommel.

Lyle lived his youth in the Red School area of rural Melrose. He attended Red School, which was the neighboring school of his farm home. In 1941 he graduated from Melrose High School.

On May 15, 1948 he married Margaret "Mardie" Musser in Melrose. Lyle was a man of many talents, among them being a farmer, electrician, plumber and a partner with his wife, in the food service business. In 1988 they created the L & M Chuckwagon Café in Melrose.

Civic involvement was important to Lyle in many organizations including serving as past Chairman of the Melrose Town Board.

Survivors are his wife, "Mardie" of Melrose; four sons, Rodney (Judy), Robin (Heraldine), Raylun (Ona), Rene (Martha); a daughter, Nancy; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 8 great great-grandchildren and a sister, Mildred Hanson of Eau Claire, WI.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kerry; a daughter, Molly and a brother, Norman Rommel.

Services will be Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from Zwickey Funeral Homes, Melrose Chapel with Pastors Larry Mahlum and Roberta Nowicki officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until service time.
