(8-10-10 Brian B) Following a WBA seminar in Green Bay, WWIS Sports Director Brian B has a chance to attend a Green Bay Packers' practice session on Ray Nitschke Field Monday.
It was a hot afternoon and several players had to be treated for heat-related cramping. After practice, Tight End Jermichael Finley said it was unusual to face that kind of heat in Green Bay.
"I just got used to Green Bay weather," Finley stated, refering to the cold weather which usually greets players and fans toward the end of the season. "This little heat that popped up here today was (brutal). Coach McCarthy shortened practice and I appreciate that. I'm glad he's looking out for us."
There were two big pieces of news from camp. First linebacker Clay Matthews is expected to mis 2-4 weeks due to an injury to the same hamstring he injured last preseason.
"For the most part, coming in I felt I was playing some of my best ball," Matthews said. "I know it's not gonna take me more than a week to get back up to speed as far as physically. I feel really good about myself. Obviously, you never want something like this to happen, but what I can take from last year is its not the end of the world and I'll be back and ready to go."
Also Rookie Tackle Bryan Bulaga worked some at the left guard position. Bulaga says it helps him to earn a spot on the roster if he can play multiple positions.
