Here are the stories:
If you can move the ball on the
ground this well, why pass? The University of Wisconsin rolled past the Indiana
Hoosiers 62-14 Saturday. The Badgers rushed for a school-record 564 yards led
by Heisman hopeful Montee Ball. He split the Indiana defense for 198 yards on
27 carries and three touchdowns. Ball is now second all-time in the NCAA with
77 TDs. And, he wasn't alone. James White added 161 yards and two scores and
Melvin Gordon carried the ball eight times for 96 and a TD. The Badgers didn't
need to pass, so first-time starter Curt Phillips only went to the air seven
times, completing one of them for a two-yard score. Indiana came into its home
game having won two straight and carrying an outside shot to make it to the Big
Ten Championship game. The lopsided final verdict means Wisconsin will fill
that slot for a second straight year. The 564 yards on the ground topped the
Badgers previous school record of 551 set almost 40 years ago.

Veteran all-stars Paul Pierce and
Kevin Garnett took over in the fourth period, helping Boston hold off the
Milwaukee Bucks in a 96-92 victory. It was payback for the Bucks' win in the
Boston Gardens nine days before. Pierce and Garnett combined for 16 points in
the quarter, with Pierce leading the Celtics with 25. Garnett added 18. Monta
Ellis led all scorers with a 32-point outing for the Bucks. Forward Larry
Sanders had a double-double with 10 points and a dozen rebounds. Rajon Rondo
dished out 10 assists for Boston, the 30th straight game with 10 or more assists
for the point guard. That's the third-longest streak of its kind in NBA
history. Boston struggled with its shooting for the first three period, but
started the final frame on a 10-4 run. The game in Milwaukee was the first of
four straight road games for the Celtics.

Former Badger hockey star Blake
Geoffrion is still in a Montreal hospital, recovery from surgery for a depressed
skull fracture. The forward is expected to make a full recovery. He suffered
the injury Friday night while playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs against
Syracuse. He slammed his head into the boards in the first period of that game.
Geoffrion is a player for the Montreal Canadiens.

It wasn't a pretty season opener and
it took some time, but the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay pulled out a 72-67
win over Chicago State at home last night. The Phoenix hit 41-of-48 free throws
in the mistake-filled contest, helping them overcome 30 turnovers. Chicago
State added 27 miscues. Kiefer Sykes spent a big portion of the night at the
charity stripe, hitting 17-of-19 on the way to a 31-point performance. He also
had seven rebounds. The Cougars started fast, jumping out to a 13-1 lead, which
shrunk to three – 33-30 – at half. They still led by four with about five
minutes to go, but Green Bay closed on an 11-2 record
-11/11-
For a second year in a row, Elliott
Sadler's hopes for a Nationwide Series title are dealt a tough blow in Phoenix.
Sadler wrecked late in the Great Clips 200, leading to a 22nd place finish and
pushing him 20 points behind defending champion Ricky Stenhouse Junior. Joey
Logano was Saturday's star, winning for the ninth time in 21 starts this season.
Brian Vickers was second and Stenhouse third. The only Wisconsin driver in the
field, Danica Patrick, finished a respectable 10th after starting 14th.

Trying to keep his exemption on the
PGA Tour for next season, Wisconsin golfer Jerry Kelly is right on the edge
going into today's final round of the Children's Miracle Network Classic in
Florida. Kelly needs to finish 36th and he comes into today's action tied for
39th. The competitor from Madison fired an even par 72 yesterday and is five
under entering play today. Charlie Beljan leads the field at 13 under par. He
has atwo-shot lead on three golfers after the first three rounds.
