Here are the
stories:
If you're going to win a
game in the NBA, at some point you're going to have to put the ball in the
basket. The Milwaukee Bucks hit just 36 percent from the floor while being
flattered by the Los Angeles Clippers Saturday, 111-85. It was the ninth
straight win for Los Angeles. Reserve Matt Barnes came off the Clipper bench to
hit 8-of-10 shots and score 21 points. Blake Griffin added 18 and 11 rebounds,
including three eye-catching dunks over a short period of time right after
halftime. Sixteen points by Marquis Daniel led Milwaukee. A night after
scoring 33, Monta Ellis went 4-for-14 from the floor and his back court mate,
Brandon Jennings was just 3-for-13. The two guards combined for 22 points. The
Bucks managed to shoot a little over 26 percent in the first half.

A win today means a second
straight NFC North Division title for the Green Bay Packers. The game at
Soldier Field features a charging Packer team taking on a Chicago Bears team
which controlled the division until the last five games. The Packers have won
seven of their last eight, while Chicago tries to change the momentum of four
losses in five games. It's still not easy. Coach Mike McCarthy acknowledges
his team faces a tough opponent, a tough place to play and there is a lot on the
line. One more streak – the Pack has beaten the Bears in the last five meetings
between the teams. This year Green Bay is earning the image of a
come-from-behind team, trailing at some point in five of its last seven
victories. Kickoff is at noon Central time in Chicago.

The new Razorbacks coach
says hiring former Wisconsin assistant Charlie Partridge will help expand the
recruiting base at the University of Arkansas. Bret Bielema announced the
hiring of Partridge as defensive line coach yesterday. Bielema and Partridge
coached together in Madison for five years, including three straight Rose Bowl
trips. Partridge is the second Badger coach to follow Bielema south to the SEC.
Partridge had served as associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and
defensive line coach in Madison this season.

A 20-point win over
Savannah State marks a significant milestone for the Marquette basketball
program. Hours after Marquette and six other schools officially announced they
were leaving the Big East, the Golden Eagles bounced Savannah State 71-51
yesterday. It was the 15 hundredth victory in Marquette history. Vander Blue
and Davante Gardner led the way with 14 points each. A 14-2 second-half run put
the game away for the Golden Eagles. Their new conference doesn't have a name
yet, but the seven schools in the Big East which don't play FBS-level football
will be moving on. Marquette, Georgetown, St. John's Villanova, DePaul, Seton
Hall and Providence made it official yesterday.

The uncertainty of no
current head football coach has cost the University of Wisconsin program another
top assistant. North Carolina State introduced Matt Canada as its new offensive
coordindator yesterday. He will join Dave Doeren with the Wolfpack, a head
coach he worked for at Northern Illinois. Canada replaced Paul Chryst in
Madison last year and he says he plans to stay through the Rose Bowl against
Stanford.
