Here are the
stories:
Snubbed for the upcoming
NBA All-Star game, Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis both scored 20 points to
power a come-from-behind 109-102 victory over Golden State for the Milwaukee
Bucks. Trailing 55-51 at halftime, the Bucks opened the third quarter with a
23-10 run and never trailed again. Jennings nailed five three-pointers in that
quarter as Milwaukee outscored the visitors 35-19. The two guards for the Bucks
got plenty of help from Ersan Ilyasova and Larry Sanders. Each had a
double-double, with 18 points and a dozen rebounds for Ilyasova and 16 points
and 11 rebounds for Sanders. Warriors center Andrew Bogut was inactive for the
game, but he made his first appearance at the Bradley Center since being traded
to the Warriors. The bat which repeatedly disrupted the afternoon college game
between Marquette and Providence didn't make an appearance. Sanders has had at
least one blocked shot in 29 straight games.

Just as Marquette was
starting to pull away from the visiting Providence Friars, a bat destroyed the
concentration of just about everybody in the Bradley Center. It flew around for
about 15 minutes, dive-bombing players, coaches and referees and interrupting
the Golden Eagle momentum. Despite the distraction, Marquette held on for an
81-71 win. Junio Cadougan led the Eagles with 15 points, while Vander Blue,
Trent Lockett and Davante Gardner added 13 to the balanced scoring sheet. By
Marquette standards, the 10-point victory was a blow-out. Four of its first
five Big East Conference games went overtime or were decided on the final
possession. Marquette is now 5-1 in conference play and 14-4 overall. The
Golden Eagles outscored Providence 44-24 in the paint and 16-4 on fast-breaks.
The bat caused two play stoppages, one of four minutes.

A fifteen-foot shot by
Traevon Jackson gave the Wisconsin Badgers a 45-44 victory in a
defensive-dominated game at home against Minnesota Saturday. Four seconds were
left on the clock when Jackson hit the game-winner from the right side. It was
the fourth straight loss for the Golden Gophers. They had a chance with
1-point-8 seconds left, but Rodney Williams missed the second free throw in a
one-and-one bonus. Badger coach Bo Ryan had chosen Williams to shoot the free
throw when the man fouled was injured. Sam Dekker and Ryan Evans led Wisconsin
with 10 points apiece as the Badgers stopped a two-game losing streak. Andre
Hollins scored 20 to lead Minnesota. Wisconsin's record improves to 14-6,
including 5-2 in Big Ten Conference play.
-1/27-
Leader Tiger Woods and
Madison golfer Jerry Kelly will be among the competitors trying to get on the
course again today at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Three golfers
completed one hole yesterday, but the rest of the third round was postponed by
fog. The third round resumes today, the golfers will go as far as they can,
then hope to wrap it all up tomorrow.
-1/27-
The hottest team in the
WCHA tripped up the coldest Saturday when the Wisconsin men's hockey team
completed a sweep of Alaska-Anchorage, 2-1. The Badgers have lost just once in
their last 13 games, while the Seawolves have won just once in their last 12.
Both Wisconsin goals and the single Alaska goal came in a busy second period.
Tyler Barnes and Jefferson Dahl gave goalie Landon Peterson all the scoring he
would need. Wisconsin's record is now 11-9-5, including 8-5-5 in conference
play.
