A Black River Falls native has won a prestigious hockey award.
21 year old Matt Millis was named the North American Hockey League's winner of the Mark Messier Leadership Award. In his third season with the Fairbanks (Alaska) Ice Dogs, Millis was diagnosed with a form of cancer back in February. He returned to his team three weeks later to help the Ice Dogs to a Western Division title. Fairbanks opened their post-season last night against Topeka. Millis was an all-state performer for the Black River Falls Tigers high school hockey team in his senior season.
